More important than how I teach is why I teach
When people choose a tango teacher, they’re choosing much more than someone who can teach steps.
They’re choosing the person who will shape their first experience of tango.
That responsibility has always mattered deeply to me.
Because people don’t only come to tango to learn a dance.
Some come looking for confidence.
Some for connection.
Some simply because they’ve always wanted to try.
Whatever brings you here, I believe you deserve to be welcomed, understood and guided with care.
Before We Dance
Before we take the first step, I like to have a conversation.
I want to know what brought you here.
What you’re hoping to discover.
And what would make this experience meaningful for you.
Every student arrives with a different story.
That’s why I try to understand the person before improving the dancer.
Because learning begins long before movement.
What Tango Taught Me
Like many students, I began by learning steps.
When I first travelled to Buenos Aires, I believed I was dancing well.
Then I discovered that knowing the steps wasn’t enough.
The dancers I most wanted to dance with rarely accepted my invitation.
Little by little, I understood why.
I had learned the dance.
But I had not yet learned how to truly dance with another person.
That changed everything.
I stopped thinking about what I wanted to do next.
I started paying attention.
To my partner.
To the music.
To the embrace.
The classroom taught me the foundations.
The milonga taught me what tango really is.
How I Teach
That experience continues to guide every class I teach.
I don’t begin by looking for mistakes.
I begin by paying attention.
I observe.
I listen.
I try to understand what each student needs in order to grow.
Over the years, I discovered that people learn best when they feel comfortable, understood and encouraged.
Teaching, for me, isn’t about creating dancers who look like me.
It’s about helping each person discover their own way of dancing.
